OVER 15 CENTURIES OF BENEDICTINE MONASTICS!
Benedictinism was founded in Rome over 15 centuries ago by St. Benedict and his twin
sister St. Scholastica. The first Benedictine Sisters came to America from St. Walburga
Abbey in Eichstatt, Bavaria in 1852 to St. Mary's in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania. Today
there are approximately 60 independent monasteries of women in the USA,
Bahamas,Canada and Mexico.

| The archives contain the records of the history of the Benedictine Sisters from its founding to its present day. The centennial in 1995 was the occasion of an extensive review of the ministries and accomplishments of the members of the community. The archivist, Sister Celine, has created a display of historical pictures and artifacts. |
