Blessings of the Monastery
Surely the Presence of the Lord is in This Place
The Benedictine Sisters believe in the bonding power of meaningful rituals and blessings. August 11, 2007 was no exception as we begun our day with the ritual of our yearly Corporation Meeting. However, in the afternoon, in conjunction with our Evening prayer we included a Blessing of Sacred Heart Monastery. The blessing began in chapel where we sang the hymn Surely the Presence of the Lord is in This Place. While in chapel, our Prioress, Sister Judith Ann, prayed a prayer of blessing and then sprinkled the community with holy water. The community then processed to nineteen different places throughout our newly renovated space we now call Sacred Heart Monastery. At each stop relative prayers were prayed and all the spaces were sprinkled. Our final stop on our journey was our community chapter room where we finished our evening praise and concluded with our yearly commissioning services where each sister is given her responsibilities for the year as she receives a blessing from the Prioress.
